It can schedule preventive maintenance at theory-of-operation windows where exposure is lowest, redirect shipments to pre-vetted alternate suppliers before a shortage becomes urgent, and select unmanned delivery profiles that minimize predictability and signature. That reduces the number of human boots and drivers on fixed routes, shrinks the window for adversary targeting, and preserves skilled logisticians for complex decision points rather than repetitive drudgery. Evidence from recent service experiments shows this is not mere wishful thinking, but an emergent capability.
Of course adversaries will adapt. AI-driven logistics creates new attack surfaces: data poisoning, spoofed sensor feeds, and coercive capture of autonomous platforms. Countermeasures will have to be baked in. Redundancy, cross-domain verification of critical signals, and defensive autonomy modes that favor safety over mission completion are necessary design choices.
